Pastoral Care

The pastoral care system at Abbotsholme involves tutors, heads of year, boarding house staff and health centre staff as well as all the teachers. Parents also have a role to play in keeping the school informed of any issues that may affect their child’s wellbeing in school as well as positives such as any achievements outside school. Every child has a tutor who has an overview of all aspects of their school lives, encourages them to fulfil their potential and provides support and guidance when necessary. The tutor groups are deliberately small with a mixture of boys and girls, boarders and day pupils. The tutor is of course the first port of call for any concerns, either academic or pastoral. Nothing is too trivial.

Twice a week there is a 30 minute tutor period. There is a tutorial programme which includes some personal and social development, citizenship, careers, study skills and year group meetings to discuss issues and acknowledge pupils’ achievements.

The Health Centre is available throughout the school day if pupils feel unwell or need medical advice or attention. The boarding houses are staffed by teams of Houseparents and duty staff who are available for the pupils at all times.

Pastoral staff can be contacted by calling the school on 01889 590217 or by emailing the member of staff directly at the address below.
