Farming is full of ups and downs
Shaun the Sheep arrived 2 weeks premature and his mother died soon afterwards. His lungs not functioning and unable to support himself, he was destined to join his mother in sheep heaven.
He was described as a “project” by a friendly farmer (“He’s got two choices”), who fully supported the idea of Shaun being stomach tubed with glucose every 2 hours and taking up residence in the Headmaster’s wife’s kitchen!
Needless to say after a huge amount of TLC and many late nights, Shaun joined two “K” lambs from yesterday’s quadruplets in the school farm’s intensive care unit, shed 5.
Shaun has captured a few hearts.
Julie Himms, our local vet prescribed very effective antibiotics (Bridget Jackson, Farm manager, amazed at Shaun’s Phoenix-like recovery asked if she could try some!)
A caring parent has offered Shaun a home on her farm on the Derbyshire Dales, a long life in lush pastures (no mint sauce for Shaun).
What is particularly pleasing is that two people never gave up hope, (they wish not to be named) despite the “experts” predicting “the end is nigh”.
It’s not going to be easy for Shaun over the next few days but his chances are improving.
After all is said and done, we farmers are kind hearted!
