Geography Field Trips
On Monday and Tuesday this week the whole of Year 8 made the journey up to the Yorkshire Dales National Park to deepen their knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface limestone features. On Monday the group visited Ingleborough Cavern, close to Settle, and took an amazing underground journey seeing first hand examples of flow stone, stalactites, stalagmites, columns and coral trees. The following day the group walked the famous Malham loop. This had been well planned in school beforehand, with students completing their first route cards, to help navigate their way to each of the limestone features. The knowledge and skills learned from this exercise will be particularly useful to the students who go on to do their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh in Year 9. During the walk the students saw Malham Cove, resurgent streams, dry valleys, swallow holes and waterfalls. The weather was kind and everyone agreed they felt fully prepared for this term’s assessment following the visit. It was very pleasing to have the youth hostel praise the students for their good behaviour at the end of our stay. I would also like to thank Miss Brick and Mr Cameron for giving up time away from home to support the visit.
