On Thursday the Year 11 Geographers visited Castleton in the Peak District, for the second of two ‘controlled assessment’ visits. During the visit the students were looking for evidence of the impact tourism has upon a honey pot location. Students dodged the showers to conduct questionnaires and visit the visitor centre. The students took many photographs illustrating just why Castleton is such a popular location for tourists. In the afternoon the students visited Speedwell Cavern, one of the areas tourist attraction for an underground boat trip through the tunnels of the former lead mine. The cavern at the end of the tunnel proved a brilliant location for Katy Edwards to test the acoustics with a beautiful set of chords and notes.
