Sun Safe news from the Health Centre

Now the summer term has started I wanted to inform you about our   Sun protection policy. This has been developed with the help of parents, teachers and pupils to ensure that we all enjoy the sun safely over the coming months.  The sun’s rays are particularly strong over the summer and damage children’s skin, which can lead to skin cancer in later life. Our students’ health and well-being are very important to us, which is why we have decided to

  • encourage pupils to wear hats and t-shirts when outside
  • promote the use of factor 15+ suncream in school
  • encourage pupils to drink plenty of water
  • ensure through education pupils are aware about the dangers of sunburn

Support is important to us if our policy is going to work. You can help by

  • Sending your child to school with a sunhat (labelled)
  • Providing sunscreen factor 15+ in a named bottle to be used if necessary whilst your child is at school
  • For younger pupils applying sunscreen factor 15+ on exposed areas e.g. arms before your child comes to schoo
  • Encouraging your child to drink plenty of water both at home and in school.

Together we can then hope to have a happy and safe term, if you have any queries then do not hesitate to contact me on 01889 594281
