History at Abbotsholme

KS3 

The course begins with a short unit that deals with historical concepts and theories. Over the three years pupils study England and the world form 1066 to the modern day. In Year 7 it begins with the invasions of 1066 and the Norman Conquest. They also study the history of China during the same period. In Year 8 the course considers the Tudors and the Stuarts, focussing on the representation of history through the use of prortraits and teh Civil War respectively. In Year 9 the Industrial Revolution and Agricultural Revolutions are considered as well as their effect on living conditions in the 19th Century. The pupils are introduced to the main events of the 20th Century, primarily dealing with the Holocaust. Finally the pupils do a “History Through Music”project.

GCSE

Pupils follow the AQA B Modern World Course. Paer 1 deals with international relations from 1900-1939. Paper 2 considers Germany between World War One and World War Two. The third section is controlled assessment, where pupils consider aspects how “Britain at War” in both world wars.

A Level

In the first year pupils study a source based paper on the English Civil War as well as a As module entitled, Conflict in the Middle East. The second year they focus on the nature of warfare from 1792 to 1945. Finally pupils complete coursework on aspects of Nazi Germany.
