International Students

Pupils from overseas are a valued part of the Abbotsholme community.  They are fully integrated into the student body and participate in both the mainstream curriculum and the extensive extra-curricular activity timetable.

Non-native speakers are offered language support throughout their time at Abbotsholme. There are regular excursions focusing on exposure to British culture, as well as meetings with overseas students from neighbouring schools.

The I.G.C.S.E. in English as a Second Language is offered to foreign students entering Years 10 and 11.  Those entering the Sixth Form are coached for the I.E.L.T.S. exam in Academic English.

All Abbotsholme students are fully supported throughout the University application process.  In the last three years, of our foreign students wishing to study at university level in an English-speaking country, 100% were accepted and took up their chosen degree course.  This year our E.A.L. students have taken up places in universities across the United Kingdom and in Australia.

International Exchange - Micaela Baatjes

Never in my life have I imagined that I would be weighing turkeys or climb the highest mountain in Wales. On the 10 September 2012, I embarked on a journey that turned out to be undeniably the best experience of my life. This was my exchange to the wonderful country, England. My exchange was a truly remarkable, enriching and pleasurable three month experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in England. I attended a school called Abbotsholme, which is in Staffordshire....

Cave Day in the Peak District - 4 November 2012

On Sunday the lure of Go-Karting meant that only three adventurous overseas students descended into the darkness of Giant’s hole Cave at 11.00am and did not surface again until 3.00pm. Ray Stiens, Carolina Hauf and Maxim Dellos were keen to try everything. With head torches on we entered the large mouth of the cave and walked until there was no natural light to be seen. Here, we switched off our torches allowing our eyes to get used to the dark; also to check that the students were o...

Fingerprint to Success

Fingerprint to Success

I participated in a National Competition called "Researching Youth". There are different scientific subjects such as Math’s, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. I chose Biology. I collected over 600 finger prints and tried to find out whether the basic pattern is bequeathed (come over from parents to their children). Therefor I formed two groups. On one hand I had pattern of families with 3 or 4 generations on the other hand I had pattern of non-relatives randomly chosen. Then I started...

Overseas Students visit Callow Hall

As the end of the school year approaches, the overseas students decided to share a farewell meal. Mrs Parry accompanied the group to Callow Hall, where they ate delicious traditional British dishes, including of course steak and kidney pudding. The countries represented at our international table were Germany, Spain, Russia, China and Kuwait. Everybody enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, the relaxed conversation and friends’ company. We all look forward to our holiday, but also to...
