A ‘gig’ was held in the David Snell building in aid of the Paul Murfin fund to support young drummers. There was an incredible range of music on offer. The Junior Choir sang about Lowry; amazing vocals from Paige Harrison, singing about the Diary of Jayne; Becky Fry singing Fields of Gold, one of my favourite songs and singing it like an angel; Christina Rowe, Katey Gardiner and Lucy Bradley joined Paige and Becky in a ‘Little Miss’ rendition of Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol and Lucy ‘Whistled Down the Wind’ beautifully.
The Jazz Band was in good tune too, with Baker Street and Smooth echoing around Abbotsholme’s sleepy campus. Mr Wilson (the Heavy Monster Sound) introduced a touch of Madness and the Specials made an appearance, the Jazz Band was rocking!
The electric guitars strutted their stuff with Chris Brown’s frenetic solo, fast fingers and key changes, ably accompanied by Arran, Callum, Dmitriy and Jacob.
It was a magical night, one of Abbotsholme’s finest when the family got together, made music, enjoyed themselves and remembered an inspirational man. It was a privilege to be there.
Sophie, Isabel, Russell and the music staff put together a great musical event and there will be more to follow.
The highlight was the finale. The House Band played Hey Jude, a Beatles’ anthem. Russell Maw was on lead vocal, tunefully supported by the Junior Choir (not so tunefully supported by the audience!). There were vocals, brass, waving of arms and the inevitable glinting of mobile phones.
