Rugby League Training

Tuesday evening was the second week that Abbotsholme Rugby players travelled across to train with Derby City Rugby League Football Club.

Fifteen players mixed between U16 and U14 age categories continued to learn the skills of League and enjoy the demanding contact sessions. The players working in the U16s category showed improvement from last week’s training and their coach Grant Hunter, Midlands Scholarship coach and Coach           Co-ordinator for Derby, praised their efforts and improving skill levels. Sam Barton scored a fantastic try, while Seth Amos and Tom Bird worked hard defensively.

The players in the U14s category began training with Simon Herbert, Abbotsholme Rugby Lead Coach and Midlands Player Development coach, to improve on a number of the basic skills before joining the rest of the Derby players for a game. Adam Wright relished in the attacking and defensive work load, carrying the ball strongly into contact and making big tackles. Tom Stops stretched his legs out with some good runs and Henry Sanderson took control of the dummy-half position distributing the ball cleanly and effectively. A great evening with the Abbotsholme Rugby players eager to learn and show off their ability.
