This term Year 9 pupils are studying the Holocaust in both History and English. In History lessons they consider how the Holocaust has been represented in film by watching 'The Pianist' and 'Life is Beautiful'. In English they read 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas'. To reinforce their studies in both subject areas they all visited The Holocaust Centre at Beth Shalom in February. Here they toured a museum about the history of the Holocaust, but more importantly they had the privilege of hearing a survivor discuss her experiences of the Holocaust. This annual visit provides a moving, personal and informative experience for the pupils which greatly enhances their appreciation of this vital aspect of history.
