Lambing was a very new experience and apart from the late night and waiting for something to happen it was lots of fun. We had no trouble feeding the lambs. One of the lambs had been looking unwell and wasn't expected to make it through the weekend. So after all the worry of finding three lambs, I was so happy to see four. Not only were all of the lambs guzzling the milk but they were all jumping around trying to be the first to be fed. Even if they had just been fed.
We were told to check on the pregnant ewes every two hours but as both myself and Ailsa were a little anxious of our first time on lambing duty we checked them every hour. To our surprise at around half past ten we found two lambs were tripping around their mother. They both looked very healthy and their mother was busy cleaning them both up. It was very exciting, especially since one was black and one was white. It took us a while to shepherd them all into a pen but we managed it eventually and ended picking up the lambs so the mother would follow. Unfortunately the lambs were still a bit slimy. Needless to say, we both fell in love with the newest lambs and also the four we cared for during the night.
