Luke's Roman Transformation

16.02.11

Continuing on from their visit to Chester to take part in a Roman walk Years 3 and 4 have been looking at the Roman army. The groups of Soldiers were called legions and a legion was made up of 5000 soldiers. Many of these soldiers were very young when they entered into the army, as the tombstones at Chester’s Grosvenor Museum show; some were as young as 14 years old.

Luke may not be old enough to join the Roman army but it didn’t stop him trying on a full replica of a legionnaire’s uniform!

Although he found it difficult to walk in the laced sandals he was able to move with the heavy metal breastplate armour. Year 3 and 4 have enjoyed their time studying the Romans and have put up a display of their work in the classroom.
