Last Friday Year 7 pupils debated the motion, ‘Teaching is all about control’. Each member of Set 2 prepared their arguments and delivered their side of the debate to a very appreciative Set 1 audience. There were some excellent performances and some interesting examples given to illustrate the argument. After taking questions (and much applause) the motion was defeated by the narrowest of margins of 8 to 7 votes and it was decided that teaching is about more than just control. This work has come from the class reading of ‘The Demon Headmaster’, a play where the pupils are hypnotised by the Headmaster into behaving like ‘perfect’ pupils.
