On Sunday 22 January 2012, 11 Abbotsholmians took part in another orienteering event, this time on Gentleshaw Common, on the edge of Cannock Chase, organised by the Walton Chasers Orienteering Club.
The performance of Enya Collier and Jenny Brown from Year 7 was particularly pleasing. Competing on an Orange course, they coped well with the challenge, completing the course in a time much closer to the winner’s time than last week. hey can be pleased with their finish in 13th place, in their class. Tara Witcomb and Joanna Walker, in training with the hope of representing Abbotsholme in the Round Square Adventure race, had the benefit of being shadowed and coached by a member of staff, working on their appreciation of map orientation for rough bearings, distance estimation and the use of catching features. They finished in 6th place on the Orange course and look forward to trying to match or exceed this performance unaided in the next event.
