The Prep School is where the foundations are laid for an education for life.

In our small, secure family unit, we pride ourselves on our knowledge of each child and our ability to recognise and develop individual talents. Our school is characterised by its warmth and friendliness; codes of conduct encourage courtesy and consideration as well as thoughtfulness for others. This sets the standards which pupils follow.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage (Reception class), the curriculum is planned around the seven areas of Learning and Development specific to the first stage of Primary Education. The Prime areas are: Communication and Language, Physical Development; and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. These three Prime areas are strengthened by the four Specific areas of Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World; and Expressive Arts and Design. All areas of Learning and Development are important and are inter-connected.

The emphasis is on learning through play with a mixture of adult-led and child-initiated activities planned each week.

The children in Years 1 and 2 are taught as one class for all subjects.

The work is tailored to suit the needs of the individual, with the emphasis on Numeracy and Literacy.

We believe that the foundations for excellence in Literacy are laid down here with a fully structured, personalised phonics programme which is delivered daily. Numeracy skills are developed through the practical and investigatory activities which focus on experiential learning and having fun, whilst developing their enquiring minds.

Year 1 and Year 2 (KS1) are taught most subjects by their class teacher.

Others, namely Music and PE are taught by specialist teachers. Pupils have access to all facilities and resources throughout the whole school, which provide many opportunities for enhancing their learning.
