Boarding Weekend 29 September ~ 1 October 2017

This weekend saw the first ‘Abbotsholme Film Festival’, with Friday evening kicking off with a selection of films chosen by staff to share with the boarders. In Cedarholme Mr Diamond chose Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Miss Morris screened Water for Elephants in Orchard, and Flaxfield went with a showing of The Maze Runner. All with fresh popcorn.

Saturday was Open Day at school, and the site was very busy with staff and visitors. The boarders excelled themselves in a number of ways over the weekend, from acting as tour guides for visiting families, to appearing in a Performing Arts presentation in the morning. Among the brilliant performances we witnessed were Mako’s violin recital, Weilin playing trumpet, and a sneak peak of George Cook’s solo song from the upcoming musical Brass.

After the Open Day the boarders went shopping in Uttoxeter and Derby, and had supper together in the dining hall. The evening was spent setting up and trying out the new volleyball equipment in the Snell Building (in which an initially reluctant Miss Morris soon found her feet), as well as table tennis, and fitness suite activities in Reddie Hall.

Sunday morning was spent mainly on recovering from a busy weekend and catching up on homework. However, after lunch boarders from all houses came together to learn how to use the new Padcaster professional video equipment in ICT1 and spent a few hours making a selection of short films and learning how to edit them on the Macs in ICT1. In the end we ran out of time to finish the films, but are looking forward to seeing the finished article next weekend!
