Welcome to the Sixth Form

Sixth Form Adv WE

Today, more and more universities and employers are looking beyond academic results. They want to hear about a student’s interests and see his or her passion for the things that he or she does. They want to know that applicants have developed as individuals and Abbotsholme aspires to do this in the Sixth Form.

Life in the Sixth Form is a continuation of the family atmosphere and aims to develop a sense of belonging and responsibility both to self and others. Many pupils who enter the school at an early age continue into the Sixth Form, to be joined by a number of new peers from other schools.

Sixth formers have a brand new, Sixth Form Centre for private study to complement the more formal library environment,as well as a coffee-shop style study area in the dining room. In addition, boarders can enjoy life in self-contained, purpose-built log cabins, enjoying the peaceful school grounds whilst preparing well for both university and future independence.

Everyone is allocated a personal tutor to supervise progress and the Head of Sixth Form, in partnership with the Headmaster, Houseparents, tutors and parents takes responsibility for the overall progress of students throughout the two years.

Prefects are nominated each year following an interview process and are charged with a number of areas of responsibility receiving guidance and training in the role throughout as well as unique rewards. Responsibility and privilege always go hand in hand. Each new group continues to provide excellent role models for their fellow students within the Sixth Form and in the wider school community.

Most importantly, our Sixth Form pupils are expected to embody the key principles of Abbotsholme’s ethos by demonstrating honesty, integrity, courage, humility and respect, and should conduct their lives mindful of these principles. These are embodied in the Abbotsholme Behavioural Charter.

Sixth Form students wear a smart business suit. They also run their own social committee organising a host of events including a number of formal dinners, fundraising events and presentations to the whole school.

Sixth formers at Abbotsholme have a greater flexibility to pursue both academic and personal interests, all the while having access to the support, advice and guidance that they need – both on a daily basis and in planning for their future. This ensures they are well prepared for future adventures, whether this is a gap year opportunity, direct employment or a university degree course.

In addition to an extensive options list at AS/A2 level, Abbotsholme offers a wonderful variety of opportunities beyond the classroom.
