Welcome from the Headmaster

It is with great joy that I will be taking over as Headmaster of Abbotsholme School.

We are a small school where pupils are known as individuals. Knowing our pupils means that we can provide each one with just the right balance of challenge and support to enable maximum achievement. Whatever the starting point our pupils should experience a string of personal bests during their time at Abbotsholme, ultimately becoming the best version of themselves as they take their place in the wider world. Pupils will be given regular leadership opportunities as they progress through the School; a growing sense of responsibility to their community and the wider world is the making of the Abbotsholmian. Our pastoral care will be the best it can possibly be, with pupils' wellbeing at the heart of all we do.

Character development is essential to the Abbotsholme education; a great education is more about empowering young people and liberating them, helping them to make wise choices about what they should do in any given situation. We aim to develop character alongside intellectual attainment. The School’s values of honesty, humility, integrity, respect, courage are our guiding principles and as a community we must all hold ourselves to account according to these.

The range of sporting and extra-curricular opportunities that pupils have access to allows Abbotsholmians to further develop as individuals and I am committed to the holistic education that Abbotsholme offers, and the Arts, Technology, Farm, Equestrian Centre, Outdoor Education and sporting pursuits are highly valued in providing an all-round education beyond the classroom.

Abbotsholme’s dedicated staff will continue to strive for the highest standards for all pupils in their care and I have been greatly impressed by the passion teachers have for their subjects, the willingness of all staff to go the extra mile and the additional support staff offer to the whole school. Teachers and support staff all have the pupils’ best interests at heart; this is a very special community full of people who truly care.

I am totally committed to the future success of Abbotsholme School and I hope to enhance the many great aspects that make Abbotsholme a unique, nurturing and empowering environment for so many pupils to thrive in.

Abbotsholme School’s Vision and Aims

Our Vision

It is our firm belief that a good, balanced education is an essential preparation for the whole of life. An education at Abbotsholme provides not only the starting blocks but also propels each individual through the start of life outside Abbotsholme.

Abbotsholme wants all of our pupils not only to succeed – whatever their individual talents or abilities may be – but also to feel successful. The Abbotsholme ethos encourages a sense of self-worth and of pride in their own achievements, whilst, in equal measure, celebrating the success of others.

Although we are committed to helping all Abbotsholmians fulfil their academic potential, the measure of our success cannot be judged by scholarly achievements alone. Indeed, it is their development as people that must be seen as the ultimate test.

Our vision is that pupils leave Abbotsholme as responsible and socially aware young men and women, able to face an increasingly demanding world with confidence and a zest for life.  In years to come, we would wish to know that they were happy with themselves and with their lives; we also would want them to be successful in their personal and professional endeavours whilst remaining sensitive to the needs of others

Our Aims

Abbotsholme recognises the diversity of talent in each pupil and aims to provide:

  • Knowledge to help everyone achieve and succeed to the best of their individual academic ability.
  • An understanding of the environment.
  • Challenges which build strength and test courage, as well as providing a stimulating and enjoyable experience.
  • Cultural enrichment to widen perspective and to develop awareness of our responsibility to others.
