One thing Abbotsholme has in abundance is teachers who are genuinely passionate about their subject areas - and nowhere is that clearer than in the English Department. Passion is infectious, and when teachers love the literature they teach, that enthusiasm naturally inspires our pupils.

As a core subject, English sits at the heart of school life. At Abbotsholme we focus on getting the basics right - with a carefully structured curriculum and thoughtfully chosen exam pathways that flex around our pupils, rather than expecting pupils to fit a rigid system.

The department also encourages regular entries into literacy and poetry competitions, where our pupils continue to achieve success, a testament to the creativity and passion that the English Department inspires.

In this English in Focus feature, each member of the department has shared a short review of one of their favourite books, offering a glimpse into the stories that have shaped their love of reading. All of the books featured are available in our school library, and we encourage both pupils and parents to give them a try!
