Round Square
Abbotsholme School is a proud member of Round Square, one of only 15 schools in the UK.
Round Square is a worldwide association of schools which share a commitment to personal development and responsibility, through six pillars of Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Service, as part of a fundamental objective of the full and individual development of every pupil, into a whole person. This commitment is reflected in life at Abbotsholme, encompassing both the curriculum and extracurricular pursuits.
As a Round Square member, Abbotsholme School enjoys numerous advantages, most notably exchange programmes that offer pupils the chance to immerse themselves in different cultures and languages. These opportunities allow pupils to spend up to three months in fellow Round Square schools, engaging with and learning alongside like-minded peers from all corners of the world.
In recent years, as a Round Square member, our pupils have travelled to Australia and Peru, and each term our community is happy to welcome overseas pupils to Abbotsholme. This enables our pupils to recognise the significance of developing global relationships, understanding what it means to respect the diversity of culture, religion and language throughout the world. Most recently, we have welcomed pupils from Australia, South Africa, Canada, India, Germany, Peru and Columbia.
Regular opportunities are available for pupils, including mini-conferences held across Europe and annual International Conferences, held on a different continent each autumn. Recent conferences have been held in South Africa, Switzerland and India. Sixth Formers can engage in Big Build Projects during Christmas and summer breaks, with destinations including Africa, India and Thailand. These projects aim to assist local communities by installing clean water systems and constructing school accommodations with disabled friendly facilities.
Within our school, we are committed to fundraising efforts, including operating a Round Square Café, run by pupils for pupils. The funds raised contribute to paying the school fees of a pupil in Nairobi, Kenya, and support the Round Square Discovery Fund, which provides building materials for Big Build projects.
