Why Abbotsholme?

Founded in 1889, Abbotsholme School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for pupils aged 2 – 20 years, set within 140 acres of rural countryside on the Derbyshire and Staffordshire border.

Abbotsholme School is a truly unique school, dedicated to ensuring that our pupils are happy, challenged and supported. Since our school opened in 1889, we have always had a fresh approach to education, favouring a more liberal and holistic education. We are always looking for ways to improve our pupils’ agility with critical thinking, deftness with problem solving and confidence with oracy in a future where these skills will be if paramount importance.

Our size is our strength, meaning that every child is not just taught, but known. We take pride in working in partnership with parents to give each child a tailored experience. If you ask our pupils why they chose Abbotsholme School, they would tell you about our equestrian centre, our farm and our passion for outdoor education. Delve a little deeper, and they would say they feel valued, challenged, and at ease with themselves and each other.

A kind school, we look after one another. We are a small school with a big heart

In celebration of Abbotsholme’s 125th anniversary and as part of his final university project, Old Abbotsholmian Matt Fletcher created this fantastic video, tracing Abbotsholme’s journey from its founding to the present day.
