U16s Midlands Hockey Tournament Success!

At the end of January, our Boys’ U16 Hockey team travelled to Newcastle-under-Lyme School to compete in the first round of the Midlands Hockey Tournament, and returned with an outstanding result.

Competing against much larger schools from across Staffordshire and the wider Midlands, the boys delivered a dominant performance throughout the day. They were crowned Staffordshire U16 Champions after scoring an impressive 20 goals while not conceding a single goal - a remarkable achievement at this level and a real testament to their teamwork and determination.

Hockey Tournament

This success highlights what can be achieved in a smaller school environment, where individual talent is recognised, nurtured and given the opportunity to flourish. The team’s confidence, tactical awareness and work rate were evident in every match, but just as impressive was the sportsmanship and respect they showed both on and off the pitch.

Coach James commented that selecting a Player of the Match was simply impossible, given the consistently high standard across the squad. She did, however, wish to give a special mention to Albert and Taylor, who now spend much of their time on the football pitch with the IOF Academy. Both players stepped back into hockey seamlessly, demonstrating that they have retained their skills and made a valuable contribution to the team’s success!

The boys now progress to the Midlands Finals, which will take place on 4th March, with the venue to be confirmed. We wish them the very best as they continue their impressive tournament run.

Congratulations to the entire team on a fantastic achievement and a performance to be proud of.
